Fall Project

About a year ago, I decided I wanted to make a quilt to put in my hope chest. I purchased all the material, and that's as far as I made it. Life took over and other things took priority over my quilt. So, the other day I decided I was making my quilt before the year is gone. I am using the Grandmother's Flower Patch pattern (which I was able to snatch up at a garage sale for 25cents; yay for bargains :D ).
So.... here it is in it's early stages.

Here is my selection of fabric

Here are about 400 hexagons. That seems like good progress, but I have to have a total of 2,277 hexagons cut out. See, not much progress compared to the number I still have to finish.

I would love to hear from you what your favorite quilt patterns are and quilt making experiences you have had; good and bad.
Well, until later,
happy quilting

Refrigerator Dill Pickles

Our friends went out of town and they let us pick out of their garden while they were gone. We had more tomatoes and cucumbers than we knew what to do with, so we got a little creative. We decided to make refrigerator dill pickles-yumm.

Step 1:
Clean cucumbers and slice into spears

Step 2: Place the spears in the bowl along with the onions, dill, and garlic; set aside

Step 3: Combine remaining ingredients (water, vinegar, sugar, and salt) in a large pot and bring to a boil until salt is dissolved

Step 4:  Place cucumbers in jars and pour boiling mixture over cucumber mix, cool.
(sorry the picture is sideways, blogger won't let me change it). Cover tightly and refrigerate for atleast 24hours. Store in refrigerator for up to 2 months. Yield: 100 pickle spears

Step 5: EAT UP :D

Ingredients:
6-8 pounds pickling cucumbers
40 fresh dill sprigs
2 large onions, thinly sliced
5 garlic cloves, sliced
1 quart water
1 quart white vinegar
3/4 cup sugar
 1/2 cup canning salt

Chic-Fil-A

There has been a mighty controversy that has come in recent news involving Chic-Fil-A. The President of Chic-Fil-A, Dan Cathy, spoke out against unbiblical marriage not consisting of a man and a woman. He says ""I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say 'we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage' and I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about." I think it's about time that someone stand out and swim upstream from the direction that the world is trying to pull us. Chic-Fil-A has always been very open about their biblical beliefs and aren't afraid to lose business for it. Rick Santorum and Sarah Palin have both united in supporting the business. I'm sure it's extremely hard to be in the public eye, as they are, and still support business that are standing against what the world is trying to teach us.
Tomorrow, Aug. 1 has been named Chic-Fil-A appreciation day to show our support for the business standing up for biblical principles. I will be attending the Chic-Fil-A nearest me. Will you join us in supporting a Christian business standing up for what they believe in? I hope you will. I would love to hear your story of how you are supporting your local Chic-Fil-A.

Summer Activities

Wildfire®

Howdy fellow bloggers!!
I hope everyone's summer is going well. We seem to have something planned almost every day. My sister, Mallory just celebrated her Sweet 16 last Monday. I can't believe it. She went with a family that we're good friends with and headed to Branson. We joined them a few days later and spent a day in Silver Dollar City! If none of you have been, I HIGHLY suggest you should go with your family, it's such a fun atmosphere, not to mention the amazing rides.
This week I am spending my days working in our church office, then spending the evenings cooling off in the pool.
How are you spending the summer with your family?? I'd love to hear from you

Blueberry Patch

These past few weeks have been absolutely crazy. My sister, Mallory, performed in the Missoula Childrens Theatre that came to town. Therefore, she had practice every day most of the day. She did a wonderful job playing Basil in The Tortoise Versus The Hare.

This past week I have started working for a local blueberry farm picking in the mornings. It's quite fun (minus the heat)! haha.

We also took a day trip to Silver Dollar City last weekend. That was fun to be able to just run away for the day and have some relaxing time.

I don't know about everybody else but I have a hard time wanting to accomplish the things that I need to get done when it's 100degrees outside. All it makes me want to do is live in my pool. :D Speaking of our pool, we had my friend's little boy over the other day to swim and he is such a joy to babysit. He is a water baby, that is for sure.

So now that I've sort of told you how I've been spending my summer, I'd like to hear from you. What are your favorite summer activities and how do you stay cool? : )

Busy Busy Busy

Oh my, how time gets out from under me so easily. I feel as if I have been neglecting the blogging world. :( .  This last week has been crazy busy attending the OCHEC homeschool conference. My sister had an entrepreneur booth with some of our sewing things. We really enjoyed getting to visit with the people who came by, and there were a lot of them. We attended the Tulsa convention and then headed to Oklahoma City the next day. Needless to say, all that has been on our mind is sewing sewing sewing. Now since that is over, we have craft shows to prepare for. The work never ends, but that's ok. Sewing is one of my favorite hobbies and I would do it 24/7 if I could. But, none the less there is chores around the house to be done.
